There’s something truly special about spending Christmas in Costa Rica. Across the country, you’ll feel the holiday spirit come alive in a uniquely tropical way. Towns and cities are dressed up with lights, colorful decorations, and festive music. In the Central Valley, especially, you’ll see people out shopping, visiting family, and gathering in parks and plazas to enjoy the season. One of our favorite things is visiting small towns this time of year — it feels personal, warm, and full of life.

For travelers, it’s a fantastic time to visit. While much of the world is bundling up for winter, Costa Rica is enjoying its dry season. Sunny skies, green landscapes, and the warm Pacific make for a perfect holiday escape. Plus, the tourism industry here never sleeps — tours run as usual on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Tourism workers in Costa Rica are incredibly dedicated. They often leave their families during the holidays to make sure visitors have an unforgettable experience. If you receive excellent service, remember that this is a tip-based industry, and your generosity is deeply appreciated.

At Casa Roja, Christmas is one of the most magical times of the year. Even in our remote corner of the Osa, we string up lights and bring the holiday cheer to life. We encourage our guests to make the most of it with an unforgettable family trip to Corcovado National Park on Christmas Day. It’s a truly unique way to spend Christmas — hiking through pristine rainforest, spotting monkeys, scarlet macaws, and maybe even a tapir.

In the evening, Graciela prepares a special Christmas dinner at Casa Roja. Whether you want freshly caught fish, pork, or a nice cut of beef, she’ll make it happen. We love to incorporate our guests’ family traditions into the meal, wherever they’re from. If you have a special dish from home, just let us know — we’ll do our best to recreate it. To drink, we have it all: wine, champagne, tropical cocktails, or just a cold local beer.

For those looking for something even more casual and fun, we can also organize a beach BBQ. There’s nothing quite like celebrating Christmas under the stars, with your feet in the sand and a full plate of delicious food.

Christmas at Casa Roja is relaxed, personal, and full of joy. It’s about creating memories with family and friends, in one of the most beautiful places in the world.
