For travelers heading to Drake Bay, the Sierpe to Drake Bay water taxi is the most scenic and efficient way to get there. Each year, thousands of visitors take this route, winding through the lush mangrove forests of the Sierpe River before emerging into the open ocean along the rugged coastline of the Osa Peninsula. However, what most travelers don’t realize is that just as the boat reaches the mouth of the river, they pass right by Casa Roja, the historic red-roofed house perched on the hillside.

If you’re taking advantage of our 2025 Green Season À La Carte Special, you don’t even need to go all the way to Drake Bay. Instead, simply let the boat crew know you’re headed to Casa Roja, and they’ll drop you off directly on the beach in front of the lodge. Casa Roja is well-known in the region, with locals frequently visiting the beach on special holidays like Costa Rica’s Independence Day or New Year’s Day.

The Drake Bay water taxi schedule runs seven days a week, making it a convenient and reliable option. Boats depart from Sierpe to Drake Bay at 11:30 AM and 4:00 PM, and from Drake Bay to Sierpe at 7:00 AM and 2:30 PM. The cost is just $20 per person. In Sierpe, the boats leave from both George’s and Las Vegas, two well-known departure points. To catch your ride, just check in at Las Vegas before departure. While you wait, enjoy a meal, a cold drink, or a smoothie at the restaurant. The journey takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes, offering incredible views of Costa Rica’s remote wilderness along the way.

However, Casa Roja’s preferred guests receive special treatment. Instead of waiting for a scheduled water taxi, we arrange private boat transportation for your arrival. No matter what time you get to Las Vegas in Sierpe, our boat will be there to pick you up and take you directly to Casa Roja—no waiting, no crowds, just a seamless journey to your private jungle retreat.

Even better, our private boat and captain remain available throughout your stay for custom travel, day tours, fishing excursions, or wildlife spotting anywhere in the region. Whether you’re heading to Corcovado National Park, Caño Island, or exploring the mangroves of the Sierpe River, you’ll have the flexibility to travel on your schedule in comfort and privacy.
